Research Axis In2Pro - Process engineering and integration

The In2Pro Research Axis (Process Engineering & Integration) brings together the laboratory’s expertise in both process and ecosystem engineering, as well as unit coupling and integrated evaluation. Its ambition: to understand, model and optimize (in collaboration with the axis MACODE) the key mechanisms that drive (bio)processes, from molecular reactions to industrial integration.

Our team investigates the fundamental processes at work, including the physico-chemical and biological reactions involved in the breakdown of organic matter, the effects of abiotic parameters on chemical and biological dynamics, and the interactions between transfer phenomena and microbial kinetics. This knowledge fuels the design and optimization of interconnected (bio)processes, helping us better manage trade-offs and enhance the services they deliver.

We study all the technological building blocks essential to environmental biorefineries, as well as their integration into coherent, efficient systems:

  • Bioprocesses: fermentation, anaerobic digestion, biomethanation, microalgae cultivation, phototrophic bacteria, etc.
  • Pre-treatments: physico-chemical and biological methods to boost integrated bioprocess performance.
  • Post-treatments and extraction processes: applied to inputs and outputs of biological reactors.

At the crossroads of engineering and biology, In2Pro aims to develop innovative solutions to build the sustainable biorefineries of tomorrow.
