Research Area MACODE – Modeling, Analysis, COntrol, and Digital DEvelopments of Biotechnological Systems

In a scientific context marked by the growing complexity of the systems under study and the diversity of issues being addressed, the research area Modeling, Analysis, COntrol, and Digital DEvelopments of Biotechnological Systems (MACODE) holds a key position within the LBE. This importance stems both from its own methodological research and from its contribution to transversal questions tackled in collaboration with the other research areas.

The originality of this research area lies in its positioning as well as in its objects of study, which are mainly virtual. It covers the entire data lifecycle—from instrumentation and acquisition, through modeling, analysis, visualization, and interpretation, to storage and sharing. This approach also enables the integration of multi-scale and cross-disciplinary scientific concerns into the models developed, without any a priori limitations on the modeling methods employed, thanks to the wide range of modeling expertise within the team.

We propose to structure this research area around four main objectives:

1/ Data-related aspects (FAIR principles, information systems, development of scientific and expert applications, ontologies, etc.)

2/ Data integration and multi-objective optimization for sector modeling (chemometrics, data integration, life cycle assessment, multi-objective optimization, etc.)

3/ Methods for (multi-)omics data analysis (statistical or mechanistic models, metabolic networks, qualitative models, simulations, etc.)

4/ Analysis, monitoring, control, and AI for processes (sensor development, optimization, digital twins, algorithms, etc.)

These objectives overlap and mutually reinforce each other.
